Comparing Garmin Fenix 6x Pro Solar with Fenix 6 Pro (Review)

The trend of multisport watches is changing day by day and we’re here with another Garmin watch review. The new Garmin Fenix 6x Pro Solar Edition is taking the gaming of smartwatches and fitness watches to another level.

It has the ability to track your fitness records and it also provides you with coaching for targets like marathons. This is a 51mm watch and it specifically monitors fitness indicators like vo2 Max and it also gives you the luxury of a full-fat GPS/GLONASS navigational array.

Other functions such as Wifi, Bluetooth and addition of playlists from Spotify, iHeartRadio, Deezer and Amazon Prime Music are also available on this device.

This might be seen as a chunky result but we’re assuring you that this is a pretty good option for serious outdoor athletes. It acts as a proper training tool and it also comes with a lot of navigation and entertainment requirements for its users.

Thanks to the built-in solar panel, a watch that carries an expedition-length battery life. Intrigued? Of course, we are.

FENIX 6X PRO SOLAR VS FENIX 6 PRO

Garmin Fenix 6x Pro Solar Edition charging

The Garmin Fenix 6x Pro Solar improves on many of the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro apps, offering a straightforward but complex set of sensors and related algorithmic calculations on certain levels.

Since both the 6x Pro solar and the 6 Pro units are marked ‘ Pro, ‘ you’ll get maps, music and WiFi that don’t grace the Regular 6 series, as well as the wide range of coaching apps, wrist heart rate, and accompanying phone app.

The 6X Pro solar turns off the 6 Pro steel case for titanium, a move that brushes a few grams and most clearly improve battery life with a solar array concealed inside the Garmin Power Panel.

Furthermore, mass is where problems really get really complicated, because in principle the titanium Fenix 6x Pro Solar is perhaps the lightest option, but in fact, the wide range of variations that Garmin has rendered this a difficult business.

So, for a Steel frame, a 42 mm 6S Pro with or without sapphire weighs in at 61 g, the 47mm 6 Pro clocks in at 83g Steel and 72g Titanium, and the 51mm 6X reaches a colossal 93g for Steel body. Finally, the 51mm Pro Titanium solar weighs 82g-the second lightest in the hallmark range but with the widest 51mm case-offering a display size of 1.40 “(35.56 mm) 280 x 280 pixels.

BUILD QUALITY AND ERGONOMICS

The only real loophole is perhaps the face of the Garmin Fenix 6x Pro Solar. Otherwise, the build quality is pretty amazing and it comes with titanium back and bezel-replete with torx screws to give it a craggy look.

After examining everything carefully, it is found that solar models are equipped with ‘power glass’ unlike the Sapphire models. This power glass makes you feel like its a gorilla glass when it is charged with sunlight. However, the Company claims that it is scratch-resistant, while it is very strong like the Sapphire glass.

This isn’t a touchscreen watch, so you’re going to need all those five keys, 007, but thankfully they’re marked in watch UI for those without a PhD.

The ‘quickfit’ straps are a pleasant touch, reversible with just the prod of a click, and the stock silicone strap holds the rear-mounted HR display snug and fairly error-free, even if they are dive-watch broad.

This device surely won’t give you the feel of ‘subtle’ design and the overall size of 51 x 51 x 14.90 mm in such a high-tech equipped device is nothing but a very pleasant surprise.

BATTERY LIFE AND MODES

When we talk about battery life then the Garmin Fenix 6x Pro Solar is way ahead of any other contemporary device. It gives you a whopping 21 days of battery life as a smartwatch and it also gives you 60 hours of battery life when you’re using the GPS continuously. It has a little solar array that is used for boosting that rate when you’re traveling outside.

Precisely, you’re going to get almost 46 days in expedition mode and we believe that is pretty good for a decent Himalayan expedition.

All of this is possible because of Garmin Power Glass harvesting the sunlight. The Company says that the indoor light will work fine but the real results are going to be produced by the effect of natural sunlight. If you’re using the GPS crazily, you should be able to get a week’s worth of training runs and more.

  • Smartwatch: up to 21 days +3 days
  • GPS: up to 60 hours +6 hours
  • GPS and music: up to 15 hours +1 hour
  • Max battery GPS mode: up to 120 hours +28 hours
  • Expedition GPS mode: up to 46 days +10 days
  • Battery saver watch mode: up to 80 days +40 days

It is also an achievement of Himalayan proportions to grasp the variety of sports, sensors and algorithmically generated data available on the 6x Pro Solar Garmin Fenix. Just naming them all is an incredible achievement, with preloaded road running, surfing, sailing, biking, climbing, rowing, skiing and golfing activity profiles only as a starting point.

There are also ski resort maps and a backcountry ski-profile too to keep you occupied, as is a standard map with turn-by-turn navigation when you need it. You will also be able to use the golf courses as they have their own mapping settings.

All may seem a lot when you begin to list it, but the news is good. The mobile app lets you select and upload your most popular profiles, so you’re right in your personalized list by clicking the top-right button.

It will be really helpful when you’re running or in the middle of a marathon or sprint. The features automatically get active when you’re running and when you’re not able to tell your exact altitude-adjusted VO2 max, the Garmin Fenix 6x Pro solar will be at your service.

The results are pretty attractive, to say the least. After a good amount of running, the results we got were VO2 max, heart-rate zones, heart-rate averages and a recovery advisor as well. Simple details such as type of running and training and its effectiveness were also revealed. Many other devices will not give you such details so easily.

ACTIVITY TRACKING AND PRECISION

In addition, Garmin offers high-level activity tracking and simple heart rate collection and tracking, and a GPS repair is available within a few meters of the door. The handle-based cardiac rate surveillance is not new, but Garmin certainly ironed out some of the shortcomings of older models as it doesn’t miss a single beat.

Garmin Fenix 6x Pro Solar Edition sensor

In-run monitoring is done so well that the HR area itself is easy to practice, and the large screen definitely makes a real difference when in movement. During the operation that can be selected in the menu, Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Solar can view six different data fields including HR, speed, cadence, and lap times.

There is a PacePro feature in the other Fenix 6 models. It is really good as it enables your target pace across hilly and mountainous terrain areas. It is something specifically designed for serious runners and competitive athletes to reach their milestones on time.

VERDICT

It is absolutely hard to categorize the Garmin Fenix 6x Pro Solar but also fantastic. Garmin has incorporated and made sense of many of the random pieces of previous models’. The interface has been decluttered in order to make it simpler and easier for you to find what you want.

On the downside, a large range of general health devices can be a little frustrating and redolent of the now nearly wiped out gyms, from drinking water to sleep monitoring and managing tension.

The battery life is leading in its area, the coaching devices and sensors are outstanding, and the ability to pull on those Bluetooth headphones along with ability to hit to go and start running comfortably function is no-doubt a big achievement.
