LG expected to prepare Apple’s 2nd-generation Mixed-Reality Headset

After a lot of ifs and buts, it has finally been confirmed that LG Display is preparing to supply micro-OLED display panels for Apple’s 2nd-generation mixed-reality headset. As of now, LG displays are looking to order deposition equipment for micro-OLED displays from Sunic System.

It has also been revealed that the company is expected to use the equipment to develop and manufacture a micro-OLED display panel for Apple’s 2nd-generation mixed-reality headset.

Besides being part of Apple’s first-generation headset, LG display is not expected to provide the main display and there are prominent reports of Sony supplying the main micro-OLED display panel for the first-generation headset.

There are strong rumors that LG display will only provide a regular OLED display panel for the outer indicator screen of the device.

Apple is also thinking about taking main micro-OLED display orders from Sony in the second-generation headset. People from the inside of tech industry feel that this is largely in Apple’s favor since Sony is going to compete with Apple’s headset with its own PlayStation VR headsets.

The Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had stated last year that the company was working seriously on the second-generation version of its headset, that will provide a more lightweight design along with an improved battery system.

The performance is going to be even better because of its powerful processor. Ming-Chi further added that the shipment schedule for the second-generation headset is expected to come out in the second half of 2024. It is pertinent to mention that the mass production on the first-generation model had begun about two years ago.
